The 3rd Annual APBA Convention Hockey Tournament

After another hotly contested APBA Convention Hockey Tournament in 2017, which resulted in Greg Wells and the 1976-77 Montreal Canadiens defeating perennial Finals participant Chuck Sorce and the 1983-84 Islanders, APBA is proud to announce the 2018 APBA Convention Hockey Tournament.

Like last year’s event, the preliminary rounds will be held in March, April and May, with the best-of-three finals to be held at the APBA Convention and Tournament in Alpharetta, GA the weekend of June 22-24, 2018.  The preliminary rounds will be played either face-to-face or via Skype/FaceTime (or similar) if the location of the particular coaches will not allow face-to-face play.  Any NHL stock team issued in a full-season set by APBA is eligible with the exception of the two prior tournament-winning teams:  1983-84 Oilers and 1976-77 Canadiens, who are both now ineligible for APBA Convention Hockey Tournament play.  Teams from the Great Teams of the Past sets and “home brewed” sets are NOT eligible, and their use will result in disqualification and shame.

The format of the preliminary rounds will be determined after the signup deadline and will be based upon the number of entrants.  By entering, please understand that if your team goes all the way to the finals, you are expected to be in attendance at the Convention to play in the final round.  Alternatively, you (or the tournament director) could arrange for someone in attendance at the Convention to compete in the finals on your behalf.

To sign up:  Sign-up is now open and will close at 8 am Eastern on March 26, 2017.  Please enter by sending an email with the subject line “HOCKEY TOURNAMENT ENTRY” in ALL CAPS to  Please include your name, email address and two team selections (your first choice and a second choice; be sure to identify the team AND season).  If more than one entrant selects the same first-choice team, a draw will be held to determine which entrant is awarded the multi-claimed team.  Details on format, rules and first round matchups will be determined and sent shortly after the March 18 deadline to enter.

Here is the list of 2017 carded players for the 900 card base set.
